Project Overview

Whelans Group has commenced rehabilitation and upgrade works on an existing swale drain adjacent to the Hume Freeway near Melrose Drive in Wodonga, delivering improvements to drainage performance, erosion protection and long-term site stability. Initial works have included vegetation removal and construction of temporary access tracks to facilitate safe and efficient project delivery.

Scope of Works

  • Vegetation removal and site establishment

  • Temporary access track construction

  • Treatment and re-use of existing onsite soils

  • Cut-to-fill earthworks and realignment of the existing swale drain

  • Import and placement of new clay fill

  • Installation of erosion and sediment control measures

  • Stormwater drainage upgrades

  • Topsoiling and hydroseeding for site rehabilitation

Current Progress

Following completion of the preliminary site works, construction crews are now progressing earthworks and drainage activities. Upcoming works will focus on reconditioning existing materials for re-use onsite, swale drain realignment, installation of stormwater infrastructure and erosion controls, followed by topsoiling and hydroseeding to establish long-term vegetation cover and site stability.

Project Outcome

Upon completion, the upgraded swale drain will provide improved stormwater management, enhanced erosion protection and a more resilient drainage corridor, supporting the long-term functionality and environmental performance of the site.
